As of writing, the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup semi-finals is in the middle of the series already.

TNT Tropang Giga which became the top-seed in Group A after the elimination now have a 2-1 advantage against the Group B No.1 seed Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in their match-up.

The Tropang Giga won the first two games of the series showing on why they are the defending champions of the conference led by their prized import, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.

RHJ was also supported by TNT mainstay Jayson Castro, RR Pogoy, Poy Erram, Calvin Oftana, Glenn Khobuntin, Kelly Williams, and new recruit Rey Nambatac.

TNT might have shown dominance over the younger RoS team but the latter stole the show in their Game 3 showdown led by the heroics of Elasto Painters' hardworking import Aaron Fuller.

With Rain or Shine having the groove already on how to play a final four series, their battle will just become better and might even go the distance.

Prediction: If TNT continues to instill their veteran presence and defending champion status, they could finish the series in five to six games but if RoS's youthful energy comes into play once again like what they did in their quarterfinals match-up, they can wrap up the series in Game 6 or Game 7.

In the other semi-final pairing, a see-saw battle happened between Barangay Ginebra and San Miguel.

Game 1 and Game 3 of the series belong to the Gin Kings, while Game 2 belongs to the Beermen.

In the “odd number” games where Ginebra got the victory, Justin Brownlee showed how dominant he is as an import and a six-time PBA champion. At 36, the “Justin Noypi” hasn’t shown signs of slowing down. He even gets better each passing day.

And if Brownlee continues these kinds of games he is playing, Ginebra has a big chance of getting into the finals.

Meanwhile, San Miguel will not go down without a fight. They just showed that they are the Mighty Beermen in Game 2 when they tied the series after the Terrence Romeo show in overtime.

SMB has the firepower to dominate not just a single game but also a series with the eight-time MVP June Mar Fajardo anchoring their offense, together with other superstars in their teams.

Prediction: If Justin Brownlee and the mastery of coach Tim Cone come into fruition once again, Ginebra will have a chance to hold the Governors’ Cup trophy again but if the Fajardo-led SMB posted their dominating presence once more, the winningest franchise in league history will be the one having the chance to get their 30th title when they enter the finals.

The TNT-Rain or Shine match-up might be finished in five to six games only but the Ginebra-San Miguel series is due to go the distance.
