RJ Abarrientos paces Ginebra for 6th win at Blackwater’s expense

Barangay Ginebra registered its sixth win at the expense of Blackwater Bossing, 86-63, as RJ Abarrientos's effort was crucial to the team's resounding victory on Sunday night, January 12, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Abarrientos' outstanding play in the third quarter helped the Gin Kings win their sixth straight game to improve their record in the team standings to 6-3, joining Converge and guest team, Hong Kong.
The prized rookie of Ginebra poured out 15 points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal, backstopping the effort of import Justin Brownlee, who scored a team-high 18 markers along with seven boards, four dimes, a deflection, and a rejection.
“Our motivation was our struggles from before. For us to get to the playoffs, it has to start now … This game against Blackwater is a stepping stone for us,” said Abarrientos, earning Best Player of the Game honors.
Meanwhile, the Gin Kings’ triumph was also highlighted with Jamie Alonzo returning to the hardcourt, playing his first game back since April of last year after he was laid off due to an injury to the calf.
“For Jamie, it’s been a long, long road for him. We’ve watched him from the side and seen the work he’s done. So it’s just a culmination of the hard work of getting back into the lineup,” praised coach Tim Cone of the 6-foot-7 athletic wingman after delivering eight points and three boards despite having a restricted time off the bench to just 10 minutes.
Blackwater reinforcement George King scored a game-high 27 markers and six rebounds in the losing cause, while Jaydee Tungcab led the locals with 10.
After their run was cut short by league-leading NorthPort earlier last week, the crowd darlings will play TNT on Friday, January 17, at Philsports Arena in an attempt to complete another back-to-back.
